Refineries Produce 92,482 Tonnes of LPG in July-August FY27

KARACHI: Pakistan’s refineries produced 92,482 tonnes of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) during July and August of fiscal year 2026-27, making it the largest category among reported non-energy petroleum products, according to oil sector data.
LPG accounted for approximately 49.5% of the combined output of the reported product categories during the two-month period. The fuel is widely used for household cooking and commercial purposes, particularly in areas with limited access to pipeline natural gas. However, refinery production represents only one component of Pakistan’s total LPG supply.
Asphalt ranked second, with production of 30,981 tonnes, followed by lubricant oil at 23,003 tonnes. Naphtha output stood at 15,143 tonnes, while sulphur production reached 11,746 tonnes.
Refinery LPG output was almost three times the production of asphalt, which represented approximately 16.6% of the combined output of the reported categories. Lubricant oil contributed around 12.3%.
Other products included 10,097 tonnes of extracted oil, 1,762 tonnes of wax, 1,625 tonnes of MTT and 124 tonnes of solvent. No production was recorded for bitumen cut-back, BTX or jute batching oil during the period.
Annual figures show that LPG production increased to 521,895 tonnes in FY2025-26 from 451,989 tonnes in FY2024-25.
Lubricant oil production also rose to 143,166 tonnes in FY2025-26, compared with 114,297 tonnes in the preceding fiscal year. Asphalt output stood at 209,419 tonnes, while naphtha production declined significantly to 165,685 tonnes from 294,944 tonnes.
Sulphur production reached 58,294 tonnes during FY2025-26, while extracted oil output totalled 49,063 tonnes.
Despite the increase in LPG and lubricant oil production, total output of non-energy petroleum products edged down to 1,188,683 tonnes in FY2025-26 from 1,198,895 tonnes in FY2024-25, reflecting a slight overall decline in the reported product categories.
